Really enjoyed the walk around the gardens with the variety of plants, birds and the lovely scenery. Plenty of shaded areas for shelter from the afternoon heat that we experienced with drinking water and toilet facilities available throughout the area. Signage was excellent for the many paths we came across and for finding our way back to the city.
A true green oasis in the middle of the city, this place offers a peaceful escape from the busy urban atmosphere. There are many different birds to see, which makes it especially enjoyable for nature lovers. The wide grassy areas are perfect for sitting down, relaxing, and having a cozy picnic. Very good maps and easy accessibility. It is definitely worth a visit and can be easily combined with a trip to the Shrine of Remembrance nearby. Overall, it’s a lovely spot to unwind, enjoy nature, and take a break from sightseeing.
We recently visited Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne and it was such a beautiful, relaxing family outing — and completely free. The lotus flowers are currently in bloom and the Oriental Lake looks stunning, filled with soft pinks, whites and lush greenery. It’s the perfect spot for a slow wander, taking in the scenery and enjoying some downtime together as a family. We spent time strolling along the paths, relaxing on the grass, grabbing a coffee from the café and letting the kids explore the children’s garden, which is easily one of the best in Melbourne. It’s thoughtfully designed, engaging and a great space for kids to move, play and discover. The lotus blooms only last for a short time, so it’s a lovely excuse for a picnic or gentle walk. You can also take a punt on the lake to see the flowers up close from the water, which adds something special to the visit. A peaceful, beautiful space that’s perfect for families, couples or anyone needing a calm break in the city. Highly recommend visiting while the lotus flowers are in bloom.
Lovely gardens. Very peaceful. One thing that made me impression were the many dogs and their owners- something usually not allowed in other countries around the world as the dogs might make a mess around the plants. The cactuses on the East part of the garden were impressive. The Children garden was a real oasis for peace. There is even a hidden bamboo garden. The Observatory is also here.
Entry to the park is free. We spent a wonderful two hours walking through this beautiful park—if we’d had more time, we would have stayed longer. Very relaxing and a must-visit when you’re in Melbourne.
What a lovely, tranquil part of Melbourne. The gardens are stunning and full of Australian plant life as well as many species from other neighbouring countries. The walk is relatively easy. There are some inclines but plenty of shaded seating to give your legs a rest amongst the flora and fauna. Even experienced a floating garden in the middle of the lake. The movement was surreal.
I strongly recommend to visit the Royal Botanic Garden Victoria at Melbourne. It’s truly one of the best Botanic Gardens I have visited. Weather is awesome and cooling during summer with warming sunshine. People just laz around the park, sit down on the grass/mat for a picnic. There are so many kinds of interesting plants, flowers and trees and it’s fascinating. We enjoyed ourselves a lot but the park is really huge and you would probably need at least 2.5-3.0 hrs to cover all the area by casual walk. Next time when I’m back at Melbourne, I will surely go back there again.
