Explore Rockhampton Information Centre

Staff are helpful with their broad knowledge of the area providing many suggestions of points of interest worth checking out. This should be your first port of call when visiting Rockhampton and district. You can't miss it, with the Tropic of Capricorn marker out the front. Some parking on the street with more around the back.

This was an awesome experience! The pub is out the back of Mackay in the Cane country . You really get a feel of the cane growers unbelievable work ethic . The food was top and we had free camping in grass , what more could you ask for !!!

The signage and marker of the Tropic of Capricorn is a cute photo op. Bit strange that most of the merch in the Info Centre has a meerkat on it rather than an iconic animal that's actually native to Australia. Still, got some great free maps. Hot tip, the marker for the real Tropic of Capricorn is a little ways out of town but worth the short trip.

Rockhampton was a real highlight of our trip — from the impressive zoo to the lush botanical gardens, there’s plenty to enjoy. We were excited to visit the Tropic of Capricorn Information Centre, especially after hearing it was a place where you could symbolically cross the Tropic itself. Unfortunately, the setup feels like a missed opportunity. While the sculpture/sundial is quite beautiful and there’s a wall display, there's no clear line or marker showing where the Tropic actually runs. Even more disappointing was the inaccurate information outside — one panel claims the Tropic of Capricorn doesn’t pass through Australia and places the Antarctic Circle across the continent! When we politely raised this, we were brushed off and told we didn’t understand how maps work. I understand the staff are volunteers, but a little accuracy and respect go a long way. Worth a quick stop, but don't expect too much.

Super useful info centre, the lady who chatted with us was so helpful and informative! Definitely worth a stop in on arrival to Rockhampton. Clean toilets too

This is such an asset to Rockhampton Region, with knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff offering information and suggestions to enhance our visit. My group was fortunate to have Tamara board our coach and guide us around the city, offering interesting information as she pointed out places of note. Her enthusiasm enlivened our tour. Our group each received the bonus of a goodie- bag containing informative leaflets. Thanks Tamara

The Explore Rockhampton Information Centre was a little dissapointing due to being closed. I understand we are in holiday period but what is the point of an information centre that can't assist holiday makers with things to do in Rockhampton. The outside looked clean and they provide public toilets which was nice, they even have a lovely park attached. Recommend if they ever open.
