Labrador Community Garden

We’ve been members here for just over a year and love our time spent in this beautiful place. Some amazing people willing to share their knowledge and recipes. Amazing way to put some home grown veggies on the table, saving money and eating properly healthy and delicious food!

I always love when the Labrador Community Gardens holds events. It’s so great to see that they have volunteers of all ages, who do a wonderful job and are always so kind and helpful. Can’t wait for the next event.

We attended a sausage sizzle at the gardens, which was advertised as an opportunity for members of the public to come down and have a chat and to foster community connection. We took our toddler through the gardens and explained the different types of plants and flowers, we didn't let him pick anything. When we walked past one garden bed, a man kindly picked a tomato for him, which made his day. As we were leaving our toddler was looking at flowers and bent down to smell one. A teenage girl came up and raised her voice at him, saying 'don't take the flowers!'. We politely told her he hadn't taken anything, and we showed her our hands so she could see none of us had taken anything. Instead of apologising, she continued to raise her voice and said 'well don't damage anything, it's not your garden bed!'. We said 'he hasn't damaged anything, look at the flowers. He was smelling the flowers and we were talking to him about the type of flowers they are'. This was publicly humiliating and not okay to speak like this to a small child. Please show some kindness and respect for people.

Labrador community garden is fantastic!!! Great group of people growing delicious and healthy organic food. Highly recommend a visit.
