Yan Yean Reservoir Park (Parks Victoria)

What a fantastic place, views from the top are incredible. Place has plenty of options - picnic areas, kids area with slides etc., old house of the care taker family nicely preserved, dogs allowed on leash, mesmerising views of the reservoir itself….it has become our go to place for weekend mornings to go and soak up the nature. Can’t recommend enough!!

Very peaceful place for a quiet picnic. Lots of trees around to provide shade to sit under. There are also a few pavilions and plenty of picnic tables. Beautiful views and fresh air, great place for a walk too. It was getting pretty busy when we left around noon.

Good picnic spot away from the buzzle. Its kind of remote tucked in a rural area. You can take a good walk but its a hike on the asphalt. I recommend you to come here only with your family or group of friends. No water to drink and no refreshments either. Feel there is no uptake at all from the locals. Lake view is good though. Mobile phone reception is doubtful.

The picnic tables are generously spaced across shaded and open areas, with rotundas available for larger gatherings. Whether you're after a quiet lunch or a birthday setup, there's a spot that suits. Toilets are located at both ends of the park, with disabled access at the upper picnic area. They were clean and functional during my visit, and signage made them easy to find. The proximity to the car parks is a plus for accessibility. The playground near the valve house is a safe and inviting space for children. It’s close to picnic tables, allowing parents to supervise easily while enjoying a meal. Overall, Yan Yean Reservoir Park offers a peaceful, well-planned environment for families, walkers, and nature lovers. The views of the reservoir, the wetlands, and the surrounding bushland make it a destination worth returning to. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommended for weekend outings, especially if you're looking for a sensory-friendly, spacious, and scenic escape.

This is a gem of a place situated very near by. When I first visited, I couldn't believe something so beautiful was just in my backyard so to speak. Easily accessible and very well maintained. The view is mesmerising. The green grass with the blue sky makes it a must visit on those rare sunny days we get in Melbourne. And it's got a good amount of area for picnic on the grass. There are barbecue stations as well. No bookings needed but they are only a handful so can get busy pretty fast. There are quite a few seating benches. The playground for kids is a nice touch and helps keep the kids busy. Its a good 1 to 1.5 km walk across the Melbourne Water Reservoir with a serene view. If you stay back post closing time in eve, the gates would be automatically closed but they do slide open when you park your car in the designated zone to let you through so keep an eye out. Pretty neat.

It’s more family friendly than sugarloaf hae to say and the picnic and parking areas are better. However I think sugarloaf is prettier
