Woolworths Balwyn

Customer service is wildly inconsistent. Tonight I actually had the best shopping experience I had here for a long time. All the employees were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately that is not always the case, particularly the last time I attended when the checkout guy couldn't use his brain to work out not to shove all of my items into one bag when I had provided three. When I pointed this out to him he said he only packs bags the way he's told. It's not like he was some kid, he was in his 20s therefore should have known better. Do these people actually get any training to use common sense??

The shop is big and easily to access. It has free parking space. The staff are friendly and supportive. It has good discounts on weekends and I prefer to buy my groceries here. It has free fruit for kids every day. Everything is fresh and the prices are reasonable too…!

I’ve generally had great shopping experiences here, except for occasionally encountering a red-haired cashier who displayed racist behavior. What really upset me and left me feeling somewhat traumatized, happened last year. I was using a large trolley because there were no small ones available at the entrance. At checkout, I tried my best not to block the self-service machines or the aisle. Despite that, this cashier loudly said, "How shameful, blocking the way." The incident is still vivid in my memory. It makes me recall the embarrassment and the indescribable frustration I felt. It truly felt like I paid money just to bring home sadness. Today, I witnessed another customer going through a similar situation. However, this time this cashier politely said, "Would you mind moving your trolley this way, please?" The difference in tone and respect was striking. Anyway, I really hope the new Coles can open in 2026 on time.

A rather small size Woolworth but got quite completed varieties of items. Encounter a very helpful friendly young counter staff today.

As today’s society turns increasingly cashless Woolworths Balwyn has instituted a policy requiring a gold coin to use a trolley.

My one star is directed at one particular employee who has the most awful attitude and completely ruins my shopping experience anytime I'm there. He wears glasses and slightly overweight and is the one collecting the trolleys. I get it's not the most interesting job but having some basic courtesy when you are working will take you a long way, rather than telling off people with your verbal abuse and finger pointing. The world doesn't revolve around you. Otherwise the staff there are generally helpful and friendly.
